Programs and services include employment, supportive housing, affordable housing development, recovery, case management, and community connections. Their name and butterfly logo symbolize the transformation people undergo as they work to change their lives. Farmington Bank’s Support Farmington Bank Community Foundation supported Chrysalis Center with a $5,000 grant toward their fresh food pantry, Freshplace, which serves Hartford’s northwest neighborhoods. Patrons choose foods that meet the health and cultural needs of their families and learn how to prepare the fresh produce they select. Freshplace was a collaborative pilot project among Chrysalis Center, the Junior League of Hartford and Foodshare which provided case management to pantry clients. The more comprehensive services enabled pantry clients to improve their financial stability and reduce their food insecurity. The success of the pilot has led several other area pantries to begin modeling themselves after Freshplace. One of their most recent projects is growing hydroponic lettuce at their facility. It’s available in Freshplace, sold at their seasonal farmer’s market, and used in their training kitchen, La Cocina.
